Alaska Airlines Operations Halted Throughout the US Due to IT Outage

The carrier halted operations because of IT outage

The airline halted all departures at airports nationwide on Thursday due to a technical issue.

The US carrier announced that it was "facing an IT outage affecting flight schedules" and issued "a temporary ground stop."

The airline did not say the duration the outage would continue or the number of flights were affected. It stated it was "working to resume our services" after the incident.

The ground stop also affected the regional carrier, which is a subsidiary of Alaska Airlines, according to an advisory by the aviation authority.

The airline, a member of The Alaska Air Group headquartered in Seattle, Washington, mainly serves on the western seaboard of the US. It services numerous locations globally, including multiple states and 12 countries, according to its website.

Last year, the carrier joined forces with another carrier, which was not impacted by the day's ground stop.

It is the second technical failure affecting the carrier in recent months. Earlier this year, an outage disrupted operations for about several hours.

Alaska Airlines did not immediately respond on Thursday to media inquiries.

US air travel has been complicated in recent weeks due to federal budget issues that began earlier this month. Shortage of flight controllers reporting for duty has delayed flights at multiple locations.
